The Durban FilmMart Institute, in partnership with the DW Akademie, supported by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, presents a 12- week business skills development program. This program aims to develop and equip producers with the skills necessary to effectively engage in a global market.

The program will include online sessions and mentoring on business and financial management, understanding the legal framework and distribution strategies. Each session will last 90 minutes. The sessions will take place twice a week over a 12-week period starting in December 2021. The program will be in English, with simultaneous translation in French and Portuguese.

Eligibility criteria

The program is open to former DFMs, including filmmakers who have presented or pitched a project to DFM through our partners Talents Durban, JUMPSTART, CINEFAM, REALNESS and HotDocs Fellows. The program is also open to former DFM ACCESS 2021. It is aimed at producers holding African passports who have produced films and have less than 5 years of experience in the industry. Directors and screenwriters who also have 5 years of industry experience and are interested in the program will need to provide a one-page cover letter to be considered for participation.
